Words to Make You go Hmmm….

Thanks for popping in! This is where I’ll be posting poems I’ve written. Hope you enjoy! With Love, Indigo

We, The savage beasts

We
The savage beasts
Are supposed to be the most refined
And intelligent
At least evolutionarily
But if that’s truly the case
Why are humans responsible
For so much savagery?
And nine times out of 10
We inflict this on each other
So unnecessarily
All this reckless behavior
Makes me feel
We’ve reached the end
Of our evolutionary tree
All the bees in a hive work together
To produce the sweetest honey
They’re not stinging each other in the back
Vying to be queen
Somehow, the bees realized before us
That every role is important on the team
But not us
Not we,
The Savage Beasts
Our bestiality
Leads us to believe
We have rights and Providence
Over everyone
And everything
Damn near right down
To the air, we breathe
We aren’t being charged as of yet
For that precious commodity
But the way they pollute the air
That’s what will probably happen next
Soon as they can capitalize and create the plans
I see the commercial already,
“Unlimited air on nights and weekends”
This savagery
That we refuse to acknowledge
Or correct
Is the selfish byproduct
Of everybody trying to get the most
That they can get
Feeling like
If I can’t make it , catch it
Or know how to chase it
I’ll just take the next man
For everything that I can
And anyone can become
Or pull that savage beast from within
To protect themselves, their family or their land
Theft is a justifiable cause for war
So why are you surprised
When you initiated Armageddon?
And now the fight is at your door
Ah, that’s right
Because part of being a savage beast
Is throwing dirt
And hiding hands
Playing dress up, make believe and pretend
This type of savagery
Has been our detriment
And one of the very causes
For why civilizations end
So do we continue this savagery?
Still trying to kill everything we can
Or reverse the savage cycle
And start healing bloody land?
I’m almost certain though
With as much savage bestiality
That still stands
These savage beasts
Don’t want a productive plan
Their savagery
Leaves them unable
To understand the value
of all of God’s creation
Even fellow man

BLACKSHEEP FISH

*Inspired by an interview with Quest Love on Fresh Air where he was talking about the genius of Sly Stone

One of my favorite quotes
In which I believe
Has no known author Unfortunately
But is a metaphor
Defining what giftedness truly means And goes something like this, 'Everybody is gifted in something, But we'd all think a fish were stupid
If it tried to climb a tree'
Basically saying
Your area of giftedness
Might not be the same as me But your area of giftedness
Is exactly where you're supposed to be It's where you'll accelerate tremendously Because otherwise
You'd be wasting your own precious time Trying to be a fish climbing a tree
Which then made me think
When you speak of being young, gifted and black
You sometimes feel like that fish
Trying to climb a tree
A Blacksheep fish
Is what we should call this
A Blacksheep fish Looking for his sea
And besides being looked at As a new species
A Blacksheep fish
Is also
A dangerously, frightening thing
Incomprehensible to those who don't
appreciate
What his talents might mean And especially
If that Blacksheep fish has a hope And a dream
A Blacksheep fish
Doesn't get admired
For the new giftedness it brings
Even if it's that Blacksheep fish Defied all the odds
And the saying
And actually learned to climb a tree
That Blacksheep fish
Is looked at
As an unwelcome intruder
Threatening the whole biome of that tree
Instead of as a teacher
Able to bring something enlightening To those living there already
Or to help other Blacksheep fish
Expand everything
That they ever thought
They could possibly be
More often than usually
Being a Blacksheep fish Means
Swimming independently In your very own
Isolated sea
Hoping that one day others Will eventually see
And appreciate
The kind of giftedness you As a Blacksheep fish bring
